Camera scan compared to Plustek 7600i 2
Demonstration of how "scanning" with a camera using diffused light reduces the effect of scratches on a negative. This is a comparison of the same negative "scanned" with a Canon 60D + 60mm macro lens + PhotoSolve Extend-a-Slide, compared to the same negative scanned on a Plustek 7600i at 3600 PPI.
In all cases the 7600i images are first, followed by the 60D image. No form of noise reduction was done. There was no cloning out of blemishes on either image.
The first two images are at full resolution. (Almost. The 7600i image was downsampled from 3344x5016 to 3241x4861 to match the resolution of the 60D image.) The other images are 100% crops of selected areas. The first two images are over 3 megabytes each so you might want to click on the third image, hover over it and then select "Original" size. Then you can go through images three through eight by selecting the arrow icons at the top of the screen. If you want to examine an entire image at full resolution, then select either image "1" or "2" when you are viewing at original size. Use the browser scroll bars to scroll through each full resolution image.
