Different scanning methods compared
Compared:
1. Kodak Gold 100 negative camera scanned with a Canon 60D + 60mm macro lens + Photosolve Extend-a-Slide
2. Same Kodak Gold 100 negative scanned with Wolverine Super F2D dedicated camera scanner (cost approx. $100)
3. Native digital images of the same scenes shot at the same time with a Canon EOS-M.
4. The Kodak Gold 100 negative scanned at the time of processing by Dwayne's Photo.
I did color correction using Adobe Photoshop CS6. The EOS-M images were minimally processed, so as to serve as control images, of sorts. One thing I noted was that the Kodak Gold 100 (as processed) has a persistent green-yellow color cast--see the scans that were done by Dwayne's Photo. So the best I can achieve is "plausible" color.
The goal of this particular test was to see how images from the cheap Wolverine scanner held up as 4x6 prints, compared to the high priced methods. I had 4x6 prints made at my local Walgreens. The resolution of the images from the Wolverine are indistinguishable from the higher quality images. At 4x6.
